The Human Side of Business
Books about people at work or in business have traditionally been written from either a bottom line perspective or a human perspective. These traditional demarcation lines between the human and economic sides of business are less relevant than they were. Business today increasingly depends on human talent.
More and more people are going into business with their spouses, capitalizing on mutual trust and complementary skills. When you live and work with someone 24x7 personal and business issues are inevitably intertwined. The Internet and low cost communications are making working from home and on the move increasingly viable.
Another aspect of the human side of business can be seen in the spread of social networks and communities within industry, the professions, public service, the arts and sciences – and also across them, for example between the sciences and business enterprise. Here like minded individuals connect with each other, the spin-offs from these collaborations often benefiting the wider community.
Increasingly people need to know how to combine the human side and the business side of business successfully– that’s the area I like to focus on.
